Kayak Training for DAR
Get some practice in kayaking before DAR, 2 hour training in single sea kayaks as used in DAR, cost €25, text Noel on 0874190318 to book place with your name and number of places.
9 May Dingle 5.30-7.30 (this session money goes to Nepal Appeal)
13 May Killarney 7-9pm
17 May Dingle 10am-12pm
24 May Dingle 10am-12pm
Minimum of 4 people and max of 10 per session.

Sign in at Dingle Marina (signposted from Dingle, across the road from the Dingle Oceanworld Aquarium)

All Competitors must sign in.

 

Sign in: Friday evening between 5.30pm and 11.00pm.

 

Saturday morning sign in

DAR & DAR relay

Must be there to register before 07.30

DAR Sport
Register 1.5 hours before your start time. Must be registered on morning before 08.30 and bike racked before 08.50
BIKE RACKING AREA CLOSED AFTER 09.00 FOR RACKING.
 
DAR Mini
Must be registered on morning before 08.30 and bike racked before 08.50

Saturday morning sign in DAR full course: 7.00am - 7.45am

Saturday morning sign in DAR Sport and DAR Mini courses : 7.30am - 8.15am

 

One relay team member can sign in for all members.

 

At sign in you will sign your name and collect your pack

 

Pack includes:

 

  • Cycling Jersey

  • Timing chip that is worm on your wrist (around neck for relay). All timing chips must be returned. If timing chips are not returned or damaged a €30 charge will apply.  Watch this video  demonstration on using timing chip: http://youtu.be/5FFgGXRqf20

  • Race number. DAR: Yellow, DAR Sport: Green, DAR relay: Red DAR mini Blue (must be worn on your front and visible)

  • 4 X Safety pins 

  • Map of course

  • Bike sticker (which must be placed on main bar of you bike, between saddle and handle bars and visible)

 

Toilets

Public toliets in Dingle are across from Murphys Pub

O’Connors Cloghane (bike transition – DAR course)

 

No swimming is permitted at Marina

Water stations at all transitions



Rules for all Courses and Competitors

 

No Headphones, MP3's, ipods or anything to impair hearing (they will be confiscated or your timing chip removed). This is for your safety on all sections of the course. No Excuses.

 

No littering. Please report any littering. Gel wrappers, bottles etc. are not to be thrown away. Empty bottles may be left in transition areas and water stops only.

 

Cycling:

No overtaking on the inside of other cyclists. Overtake on the right when safe to do so. Be careful overtaking on steep descents (Conor Pass and Mam Clasack).

Help any competitor in need of assistance if injured and notify the nearest marshal (all marshals will be wearing high vis jackets).

You must pull over if an emergency vehicle is trying to pass. 

Mandatory Kit must be carried at all times (see below).

There is no bike repair vehicle on course, it is a self-sufficient race. If you are in trouble will do our best to get you back to the start as soon as possible.

Be respectful and aware of other road users and competitors.

Obey marshals at all times.

Follow Course Signs - We do our best to mark all courses as well as possible but if you do get lost don’t blame us!

 

Most of all enjoy the race and be sociable to all other competitors, spectators, locals and marshals.

 

Temporary Road Closures:

 

Conor Pass will be closed from 9.00am -10.30am only (95% of DAR full and relay should be over by then).

 

Mam Clasack will be closed from 10.30am -2.30pm only. 

 

Mandatory Kit for DAR, DAR relay and DAR Sport

  • Small backpack / bumbag; (Jersey pockets will do if secure)

  • Wind-proof / waterproof top

  • Small first Aid kit (bandage and few plasters)

  • Drink bottle

  • Energy Bars

  • Hat or buff

  • Whistle

Cycling Kit: Bicycle helmet (must be a cycling helmet) and bike repair kit 

 

Mandatory Kit must be carried on all run and bike stages, but it can be left at the kayak transition for the kayak stage. There will be kit inspection at the finish line. If all of the mandatory kit has not been carried time penalties will apply. Mandatory kit is for your own safety.

 

DAR  Schedule & DAR Relay 

 

Sign in Friday evening or Saturday morning as above.

Be at Start for 8.00am with your bike and ready to go.

Timing Chip will be checked as you enter Start area. Only one way in (if you hop over the wall or barrier your timing chip may not record times for the race).

 

08.30- 08.45 All competitors must be in Start area

08.45 Final few words on any course updates 

09.00 Sharp Race leaves Marina. (

09.00 -09.05 All cyclists start in convoy behind safety vehicle through Dingle

09.05 Horn sounds at Start of Conor Pass Hill and racing begins

 

Cycle

Up and over Conor Pass. Be careful on the descent. Narrow/Steep/sharp turns with 1000ft drop on your left. Downhill to Kilcummin Cross. Sharp left and along the coast to Cloghane.

 

Note: The Transition in Cloghane has been changed from previous years:

Transition Cloghane; You must dismount your bike on the road and run or walk in the transition area. You must not cycle you bike in the transition area.

One way system:

The transition area is in a field on the right just before O'Connors pub.

RACK BIKE ON RIGHT SIDE. RACK BIKE WITH BACK WHEEL IN AND HANDLEBARS FACING OUT. ATTACH ALL SHOES AND HELMETS THAT ARE GOING BACK TO DINGLE TO THE BIKE. Bikes will be transported back to Dingle.

Once you have racked your bike you continue through a gate, where you must DIB IN with your timing chip, into O’Connor’s pub car park and onto the road, commencing the run section.

 

Mountain Run

Follow race arrows and marshals directions. You will be running on the Dingle Way - you must pen and close gates as you find them.

Follow path up Mt Brandon, take care on steep sections. If you need help call for marshals assistance or use you whistle. 

DIB IN with your timing chip on Summit.

Descend with Care.

Transition to Road Run at Baile Breac: DIB IN after mountain run and top up water for road run.

 

 

 

Road Run

 

 

 

 

Follow arrows, always stay on the left side of road until Milltown Bridge, then turn right over bridge and follow signs for kayak section. There will be a water stop half way along road run on left.

 

Kayaking

DIB in at kayaks. No time out anywhere on course. Time out will only be used if there is a queue for kayaking

Single Sea kayaks will be used. 

Footrests will be set up according to height ranges. Coloured ribbon will be used to indicate height ranges are per the below:

 

6ft  and over: Red ribbon

5.9 - 6ft: Blue ribbon

5.6 - 5.9ft: Yellow ribbon

Less than 5.6 Green ribbon

 

Exact matches cannot be guaranteed.

 

Kayak 2 km in a counter clockwise triangle: 660m towards Colaiste Ide, then 660m east towards lighthouse, then 660m back to start point. There will be 2 safety boats on the water. If you capsize, don't panic, hold on your kayak and paddle and a safety boat will get you back in and you can continue. Finish kayak and DIB OUT.

 

Run to finish at Marina on right side of road, inside the cones. You will receive a print out of your times and DAR medal. Well done! There will be water, soup,  bananas and a well earned rest. Your bikes will be racked in numbers at the finish area. You must have your race number to collect your bike. If you wish to collect your bike from Cloghane you must get a ticket. If you want someone else to get your bike you must ask for a bike ticket when signing in.

After Party and prize giving in Danno's pub at 8.30pm (across from Dingle Tourist office).

 

No leaving equipment anywhere on course. It is forbidden for anyone to give you anything on route, eg runners. All items must be carried with you at all times. All timing chips must be returned the same way as given out. Missing or damaged timing chip will incur a €30 charge.

 

DAR & DAR relay Cut off Times:

Cycle section will close at 11.15am

Mountain summit will close at 1.45pm

All competitors must be off the Mountain by 3.00pm

Run section will close at 4.15pm

Last kayak allowed on water at 4.15pm

If you miss these times you may continue but support will no longer be in place, no kayaking after 4.15pm.

 

DAR Relay

 

Same as DAR above for most.

Cycle leg first. Mountain runners must be on bus at 08.30 to depart for Cloghane at 08.40. Swap over timing chip in transition in Cloghane.

Bus back from Cloghane at 11.

Buses for Road Runners to go to foot of Brandon will depart 10.30 and 11.30 (decide with team on times and which bus to get)

Kayakers must walk 10min to kayak section to wait for kayaking (also think about time to be there) Either kayaker or runner can do final run to finish.

Mandatory kit must be carried on 3 sections, Bike, Mountain and Road. Inspections will take place. Time penalties will apply.



DAR  Sport Schedule 

 

Sign in:

Friday evening between 5.30pm and 11.00pm.

 

Saturday morning sign in DAR Sport course: 07.15-08.15

 

You must take your bike to Transition 1 (follow sign posts). You can cycle over and walk back, or drive over follow signs for bike drop off and parking area for drop off and rack your bike in transition 1. Please do not block petrol station car park inside to the left and outside. DO NOT leave cars here for the day (IT IS JUST A DROP OFF AREA)

Bikes must be racked here by 8.45am. No racking after 8.45am.

 

Check what wave you are in on Friday evening. No changing waves at short notice.

 

NO OVERNIGHT BIKE PARKING

 

Start

 

Wave 1: 09.00am   

Wave 2: 09.20 am

Wave 3: 09.40am

Wave 4: 10.00am

Competitors must be in the start area 20 mins before wave start time.

09.00 Wave will be queuing to start area to go in straight after main DAR start.

Timing Chips will be checked as you enter Start area, Only one way in (if you hop over wall or barrier your timing chip may not record times for the race)

Final briefing on any course updates.

Run to kayak on main road and stay on left sideof road, over bridge and down to kayak area> uneven surface so take care.

Follow arrows, then turn right over bridge and follow signs for kayaks. 

 

Kayaking

DIB in at kayaks. No time out anywhere on course. Time out will only be used if there is a queue for kayaking

Single Sea kayaks will be used. 

Footrests will be set up according to height ranges. Coloured ribbon will be used to indicate height ranges are per the below:

 

6ft  and over: Red ribbon

5.9 - 6ft: Blue ribbon

5.6 - 5.9ft: Yellow ribbon

Kayak 1 km in a counter clockwise triangle. 300m towards Colaiste Ide, 330m east towards lighthouse, then 330m back to where you start point around bouys with flags and safety boats. There will be 2 safety boats on the water. If you capsize, don't panic, hold on your kayak and paddle and a safety boat will get you back in and you can continue. Finish Kayak, DIB OUT.

 

Run back to Bike transition. One Way System.  In on right side and out other way.

Do not mount bike till on main road, you must run or walk with bike in transition area.

Transition in Dingle Distillery on the right.

Bikes will be transported back to Dingle.

 

Mt Eagle/Clasack/Transiton:

 

RACK BIKE ON LEFT SIDE OF THE ROAD. RACK BIKE WITH FRONT WHEEL IN AND BACK WHEEL OUT, ATTACH ALL SHOES AND HELMETS TO THE BIKE.

 

DIB IN.

 

Mountain

 

Follow run arrows and marshals directions. You will be running up a zig-zag track. NO DEVERTIONS OR SHORT CUTS, YOU MUST STICK TO ROUTE or penalties will incur.

At the first water puddle on flat stay left to keep feet dry, at the second water obstacle stay right on bog and follow arrows. Follow track to the end and then follow signs to summit of Mt Eagle. DIB IN at  Summit and return same way. Take care on steep sections. If you need help call for Marshals assistance or use you whistle. Descend with Care.

On the descent stay right to allow others pass. DIB OUT at the bottom of the mountain.

 

Final Cycle:

 

Cycle up and over Clasack. Loose grave in centre of road on steep descent, stay left. Take care as there are lots of houses on this descent to Paudi O’Shea Pub. You are then back on the main road to Ventry. In Ventry turn left at Quinns/Post Office for final steep hill of day. This is the Old Ventry road back to Dingle. It is narrow and there are plenty of farms along the road. Left turn after 500m onto main before you arrive back to the bike transition. YOU MUST DISMOUNT YOUR BIKE ON THE ROAD AND NOT IN TRANSITION. ONE WAY SYSYTEM: In left, rack bike and out the other side to cross road to run to the finish at Marina on right side of road, inside the cones. You will receive a print out of your times and DAR Sport medal. Well done! There will be water, soup,  bananas and a well earned rest. You must collect your bike at Transition 1 before 4.30pm. If you wish to collect your bike from Transition 1 you must get a ticket. If you want someone else to get your bike you must ask for a bike ticket when signing in.

If you miss these time you may continue but support from DAR or DAR team or timing will no longer be in place.
